When I found a store willing to print some new jerseys for us that would match the old ones I was pretty stoked. Thinking we could use the new jerseys as a fundraiser to enlarge the pond and purchase a container to hold more gear to rent and take care of the ice, I was even more stoked. With over 600 people on our FB page what could go wrong, right? Wrong.
Unfortunately I only had two people interested in supporting the rink by purchasing a jersey. Maybe its the time of year, maybe we are all just too busy or maybe Reno Ice has siphoned off most of the players we used to have or a combination of all three… I don’t know. But I have suspended any fantasies I had about a jersey fundraiser and a spring playoff due to lack of interest. Hopefully we can try again this fall when pond hockey is more on people’s dashboard.
Nevertheless, so we don’t end on a sour note, let us remember that we had a great season considering the weather challenges and I want to thank everyone that made pond hockey a reality after we received an unprecedented 8 feet plus of snow on the ice. To all who helped shovel, blow snow, resurface the ice, fit skates, help the littles learn how to stay up or just show up and support the rink by playing… kudo’s to all of you. Hope we can keep it alive in the future!
